CM launches scheme for directors

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday launched a scheme for payment of salaries to film directors and assistant directors through Tamil Film Directors Association.

The scheme was inaugurated at the Secretariat in the presence of the Directors Association President Bharathiraja, secretary R K Selvamani, vice president Vikraman and other office bearers.

Launching the scheme, the Chief Minister distributed salaries to 24 directors and assistant directors, working in the seven films. Among those who were paid their salaries include director of ‘Pen Singam’ (which has script by Karunanidhi) Bali director Srirangam and his assistants, ‘Thiruthani’ director Perarasu and his team, ‘Mappillai’ director Suraaj and his associates and ‘Seedan’ director Subramaniam Siva and his men.

As per the new scheme, producers can not directly pay directors and assistant directors. They can draw their payments only through the association. This move would regularise the salaries of assistant directors, it is felt.
